Job Description

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development is seeking a detail oriented Mineral Processing Laboratory Technician to oversee day to day mineral analysis, ore testing, and analytical equipment operations. In this role, you will carry out essential physical, chemical, and metallurgical processing tests to support national geological surveys, mineral resource evaluation, and industrial value-addition projects across Uganda.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare, crush, grind, and analyze rock and mineral samples following standardized laboratory protocols.

  • Perform mineral beneficiation experiments, including flotation, magnetic separation, gravity concentration, and leaching tests.

  • Operate and calibrate analytical laboratory instrumentation (such as AAS, XRF, and optical microscopes).

  • Record, compile, and archive experimental assay data to generate accurate technical evaluation reports.

  • Maintain strict laboratory quality control (QC), routine safety standards, and proper hazardous chemical disposal procedures.

  • Support research initiatives and assist private sector stakeholders with routine sample testing requests.

Key Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Diploma or Honors Bachelor’s Degree in Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Metallurgy, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 to 3 years of hands-on experience in a mineral testing laboratory or mining production environment.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in sample preparation methods, ore characterization, assaying techniques, and wet chemical analysis.

  • Core Competencies: High analytical precision, adherence to occupational health & safety regulations, and strong data management skills.
